I always clear my own trays in hawker centres because I am disgusted by how we are first-world country, but have third-world eating habits. Every time I sit down, I am confronted with prawn shells and chicken bones on tables and dirty utensils and unsightly liquid all over the table. I decided that I don't want the subsequent diners to feel what I feel, so I clear my own trays like people in Japan/Taiwan/Korea. Little did I know that I would get f***ed for doing this....

One day, I had lunch with a sweet looking and quite busty female friend at a hawker centre. After we had finished lunch and were about to leave the table, I took her tray and mine and returned them to the tray return shelf. She stood there looking flabbergasted. Seeing her surprised look, I said I do this all the time and explained to her my reasons. Beside the above reasons, I also added that I feel disgusted seeing babes nicely dolled up, wearing expensive watches and carrying branded bags, working in high-level positions, yet eat like an uncivilised person and leaving all the prawn shells and bones on the table. She looked a bit sheepish and said she would improve on her image. She added that she was very impressed with me and I was the first person ever to do the right thing.

The next evening, we went for a drink. She got a bit tipsy after two beer and whispered into my ear that she actually got a bit turned on by what I did the day before. Bro, do u often lunch with girls? U have to. When you clear, also clear theirs. Make them feel guilty. Sometimes such guilt can turn into arousal and intrigue.

When u clear, also make your actions look purposeful. Treat it like u r demonstrating the correct procedures to a big audience, and not just quickly return the trays. Slow and purposeful.

Because u and I are the odd ones out, girls from other tables will also take notice. It's a numbers game; the more u do, the higher your chances of getting lucky.

Don't just clear chiobus trays. Clear guys' and non-chiobus' trays too because u never know where chiobus may lurk. Remember chiobus get wet not because of what good u do to them, it's what good they see u do to others.

Poor aunties and uncles. There r some people who argue that these cleaners will be out of job if we all were to clean up after ourselves. My argument is this: If one day legislation were to allow people to poo legally on the roads, cleaning companies will be set up to clean poo. There will still be uncles and aunties who are willing to do this menial task for a wage. Therefore, the argument that civilized diners are taking away cleaning jobs is invalid. Why this phenomenon happens is more of a structural issue but I shall not address it here since this is not an economic forum. Anyway, do your part for them. If we can adopt the japan model in which people send their trays to a few main cleaning stations, which are automated and manned by one person each, thereby reducing the need for cleaning uncles and aunties and reallocating them to less menial tasks, it will be great for society.

Just had lunch at hawker. Saw a group of armpit-shaven sexy OLs leaving behind an impressive array of dirty plates, tissue papers, unidentified food stuff on their table. From 80 points become 0 (but of cos if they were to strip, it's back to 90 points).

Since it's mostly guys who read this forum, I assume it will be predominantly guys who will initiate tray clearing acts, thereby making Sporean men look more civilized than ladies. Actually u can tell a person's upbringing from little things like this.

Some friends actually wanted to do it but they were afraid of going against the norm and being chided by fellow meal mates or being stared at by surrounding people. I asked them why be afraid of doing the right thing! People stare cos they are guilty and embarrassed!
